(moderately priced) gifts to make you go ga-ga

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 by The Fashion Fool
Although Valentine's Day is not typically associated as a gift exchanging holiday, little goodies are alway a nice touch to express one's sentiments. I complied my own list of things that I know would make appropriate gifts for significant others, relatives
and even friends. Think of these as the candy valentines you gave out in elementary school all grown up.

For the Ladies:

1) Signature Scent

Certain smells conjur memories of different people, places and events. I know I associate mymom with a very specific scent (a mixture of hairspray and Flower by Kenzo perfume) as well the bath and body works soap I have in my bathroom with a drink that my grandmother used to make me when I was a kid. You can't help it, scents linger longer than any other senses. What a way to show someone you care than presenting them with a signature scent. (if they don't already have one that is) Perfume is a personality in a bottle so a lot more thought goes into the process. (fun and fruity? light and floraly? musky and sexy?) One perfume that never fails to impress anyone (my personal favorite!) is narcisco rodiguez. It's mixture of florals and mossy woods exudes sophistication and all around loveliness.

2) Unorthodox heart-shaped jewelry

Flowers, chocolate and heart shaped jewelry sort of make the trifecta in the universe of
all things valentine's. Although the simple silver or gold hearts are nice (and certainly could be staples in a girl's wardrobe), an alternative would be to give her quirky, kitschy jewelry that will sure to make her laugh. Fred Flare's Sweet Nothing necklaces are a perfect way to let the world know the status of your relationship. From saying such as "Better Recognize" to "Warp Speed" engraved in these litte bad boys, you can skip the card altogether.

3) White lace

To me, nothing exudes an air of romanticism quite like white lace does. It is feminine and youthful, sexy yet contrived and even though lace is currently a trend, trust me when I say that it can be as classic as a black blazer or the perfect oxford shirt. This white lace T-shirt by BB Dakota will definately give one's everyday wardrode a mush deserved uplift and it is a guranteed winner to give anyone.

For the fellas:

1) sweet treats with a message

Nothing says valentine's day quite like sugary treats galore. Boxed chocolates and candy are standards but baked goods truly shows one's affections. Make it extra special by putting special messages into the treats themselves. These Message-in-a-Cookie Cutters by Williams Sonoma are an and effective way to showcase your emotions in a baked good. Write his name or your name or even inside jokes. One thing's for sure, your efforts will definately not go unnoticed.

2) The perfect timepiece

Watches make the best gifts for anyone. (I certainly love them!) I also love the combination of cream and brown leather in this Nixon watch. It is a watch for him that looks good on you too!

3) His signature scent

Let's be honest, boys love to smell nice just as much as girls do. And if you are like me and are completely cluless about cologne, get him the Sephora Brand Deluxe Frangrance Sampler. It has every brand under the sun and the best part is that there is a voucher insider the box set. So after he is done sampling all the products, he can go in to Sephora to get a full size of his favorite. With him smelling nice, cologne will be the gift that keeps on giving.

4) Your company

While material objects are nice, valentine's day is all about the celebration of love and friendship. The most important thing is to spend time together and at the end of the day, guys want nothing more than your company. So go out (or stay in), relax, and have a fabulous time this valentine's day!
